Wow, what a busy week we had last week. Thank you ALL for your tremendous support as we earned pledges for the Fun Run. We were blown away and so very excited to have surpassed our goal, raising $42,000 as a school! This promises to be a busy week as we wrap up the month of February. The second trimester is coming to an end as we finish up some assessments for upcoming report cards. Thank you for your continued support and for checking blue folders each night. We are headed on our first field trip next week. Please return permission slips as soon as possible.
We hope that you enjoyed a wonderful 3-day weekend together. Students will continue to work hard to earn pledges this week for the Fun Run on Friday. Our first graders are doing such a fabulous job. Thank you for all of your support. Students should begin to select and practice for their oral presentations next week where they will be reciting a poem to the class.
What a busy week we have in store here in 1st Grade. Beacon Park is taking part in Penny Wars starting this week. Students can bring in pennies to raise money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Any silver coins brought in can be put in other classrooms’ bags to take points away. The class that raises the most money will earn a pizza/pasta party. Information was sent home last week. Spirit Awareness Week is upon us: Students can dress up in different colors to support many different causes: Monday- orange for Leukemia; Tuesday- blue for Autism Awareness; Wednesday- Green for Mental Health; Thursday- black for Violence Awareness; Friday- Pink for Breast Cancer.
Students will take part in the Fun Run Pep Rally on Tuesday. Please look for information coming home this week to support Beacon Park!
Friday is Valentine’s Day. Students can decorate a bag or box at home to collect Valentines on Friday. Students are welcome to bring in Valentines on Friday to pass out to each classmate. No need to put classmate names on the Valentines. Just have your child sign his/her name. We look forward to a wonderful week.
Wow! We made it to the 100th Day of School. The year seems to be moving ahead of us so very fast. We have an exciting week ahead with the 100th Day of School and Global Day of Play. We will celebrate the 100th Day of School. We would love for students to participate by dressing up like they are 100 years old. Students can also decorate a shirt, cape, or hat to show their 100th Day Spirit. We look forward to a fun-filled day. On Friday, students will take part in the Global Day of Play. This day is to remember the importance of play while we learn. Students can bring in toys (no electronics please) to share with classmates. Students will spend the day playing and learning to enjoy each other’s company, take turns, and cooperate as they play. Please do not hesitate if you have any questions or concerns.
Wow! It is hard to believe that we are in our last week of January. Students are working hard to settle back into routines after days off. We had the wonderful opportunity to watch our stories come to life with the Imagination Machine last week. A big THANK YOU to our PTA for providing this fun-filled opportunity. Teachers will continue to assess students this week to see all the progress they are making in reading. We will enjoy Oral Presentations this week as students share about their favorite toy. Thank you for helping your child prepare. We have lots to look forward to in the month of February with the 100th Day of School, Day of Play, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, and more. Please stay tuned for lots of updates coming your way.

We hope you all had a wonderful four-day weekend and enjoyed some extra time together.
We are back into the busy swing of things in 1st grade! It has been so wonderful to hear all about each other’s winter breaks and to set some goals for the remainder of the school year.
As we approach the 1/2 mark this week, we encourage students to remember to practice sight words (high frequency words) each week and to practice math facts and read nightly. Thank you for your continued support.
Happy New Year! Welcome 2020! We are looking forward to a fabulous week as we welcome all of our sweet Bengals back to the routine. We hope that you all had wonderful time with family and friends and are looking forward to tackling the year ahead- it promises to be a wonderful time. Students may be extra tired this week as they resettle into the routine of school and the extra demands that brings with it. Thank you for taking the opportunity to re-establish positive homework and bedtime routines at home to help with the successful transition.
